Back from the "Party"

Last weekend we celebrated my Daddy turning 90! The party was tremendous, with such an outpouring of love and devotion for a truly honorable man. Over 100 friends and family turned out to congratulate him on the remarkable day. He received over 50 cards from all over the country thanks to family, friends and Soldiers Angels. The phone calls on his “LifeonRecord” phone line were an emotional addition to his day.

This party wouldn't have been the event it was without so much help from the local family members, each family decorated a tabletop to signify each decade of Dad's life. We all contributed food, and an amazing group of people just went into the kitchen and worked hard to prepare enough food to feed all of us two or three times over! The kitchen helpeers included neighbors from here and family that came all the way from Florida. There are pictures of at least 10 to 20 people in the kitchen at different times.

This is one of my favorite – Sean, Haydan and Austin making sure the potato salad is up to par. Janet, my sister-in-law makes awesome potato salad, and Tricia contributed another bowl so there was no shortage.

Tiffany wanted to make the cake, but our timing conflicted with her new house purchase. Next best thing was to buy a plain cake and embellish it with gumpaste frames and rice paper vintage pictures of Dad.

I can post and comment for the next year about this party and all the significant things that came about as a result of this day and this man. I may just do that and rename the blog. One of my favorite projects for this party was the subway art. I created one with all of the names of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The other was each year of his life.
